Bio: ​

Dr. Mu is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Earth System Science at University of California, Irvine. He was previously a fellow of NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology Future Investigator (FINESST). He completed his PhD in Climate Sciences and Climate Change at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His dissertation investigates the dynamics and projections of the Low-level Jet and Mesoscale Convective systems on the eastern slopes of the Andes in South America. He was an intern and visiting researcher for the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, USA. Before joining the University of California, Santa Barbara in September, 2021, Dr. Mu completed his Master of Science degree at the San Diego State University where he examined deforestation and moisture recycling in the Amazon basin.

Dr. Mu research uses large datasets and climate models to understand climate extreme events, atmospheric dynamics and land-atmosphere interactions.

Research interests are broadly climate extremes, extreme events and hazards, precipitation, convective storms, land-atmosphere feedbacks, hydrologic processes, and climate projections using modeling, satellite and ground-based data.
